Umm, Hi again (13 years later)
Hi there,
Matt here, I've been reading since about 2001, joined the forums in about 2007 and posted a bit but spent more time around then on the XKCD fora (as I ended up meeting my now-wife there). Always kept following on Twitter & the like over the years and have noticed Mae getting back into things recently so am re-reading the archive and thought I'd dip my toes back in here.
Long & short:
- Nerd
- Love me some Star Trek (and Wars, Gate, etc)
- Big old D&D nerd nowadays too, (have been DMing for about 3 years now)
- Into 3d printing too
Ohh & comics. Have done the webcomic and published book thing myself here in the UK (3 self published collections & a bunch of comic cook books for kids, I used to do about 12 cons a year up until a few years back when I took a 'year off' to get married and got a bit too used to the spare time).

Thank goodness. Another Brit to class the place up a little. These rough cowboys have got me cornered.

I'm also boycotting UK goods until Prince Andrew is in jail.
Not because he's a nonce. Just because he's a bawbag.

I do, and I don't doubt it. Although it's funny where you find imported stuff around here-- sometimes they make a big deal of it, like it gets its own special British Things aisle in the store. Other times it's like finding it in a mini-mart next to the antifreeze.

You should see the "American Food" sections here. Usually a little section in the forgotten corner of the world foods section containing a few boxes of lucky charms, some A1 steak sauce, pop tarts and a few other bits & bobs.nosystemd wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 8:22 amI do, and I don't doubt it. Hey, that's what my pantry looks like!
If I show up at your door, chances are you did something to bring me there.

Are you kidding? The saddest thing about the UK was how many American things they had. And of all the brands to find EVERYWHERE in the world (McDonald's I already expect, I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of micronations have one) I can't believe KFC is one of them. Don't get the chips at an American KFC though-- the British ones are necessarily better. Of course I had enough sense to not get only KFC chips, I had Cornish pasties and went to proper greasy spoons for fish and chips. But I had to try the KFC ones for comparison.
I did enjoy HP sauce on chips though-- while I was there and after I left. On eggs as well.

We just have that anyway. In the regular drinks section. Same for most drinks (Pepsi, Coke, Sprite, etc) we even started getting Mountain Dew a number of years back and that's a pretty regular sight in bigger shops.

You went to a greasy spoon to get fish and chips? A GREASY SPOON???? Dear lord. You go to a greasy spoon for a fried breakfast or a bacon sandwich. Not fish and chips.
If you ever come back and aren't instantly deported for such a transgression, go to a proper chippy
