I learned about a thing. It was Blue Waffle. I know I'm about fifteen years off the pulse on all things internet, but if you're not aware of this, please stay unaware of it.

Oh hey. This is just like The Game.

Pregnancy and birth is a nasty business. But we seem to like it anyway :)

no no, rors. That's normal.

It's alwasys surprising to everyone when the reach a certain age that they never knew the natural color of a waffle is blue.

but the GOVERNMENT decided they would be more pleasant if they were yellow back in the 30's.

No joke. All waffles used to be blue. Look it up.

Yeah all that "You are glowing and radiant" is total Bullshit. It's tough on the body during and after, but growing your own little person is pretty freaking awesome. Then you get to screw them up in ways you won't find out about until it is too late haha. After 12-14 hours of labor I had emergency C-Sections both times so I was out for the worst of it. They are tough to recover from but at least my lady bits didn't get wrecked.

Really. Nicola was in hospital for a week with Cara. Down to the delivery room at least three times then sent back to the ward. She was fighting a fever at the time and they kept forgetting to give her meds or claiming they had when they hadn't. Insisting she had ordered the ham sandwich even though she has been a vegetarian since her tweens. I'm sure she was in labour for about eighteen hours.

Yeah, I was pretty brave. Although I don't go on about it.

Did you get an award, at least? Key to the city? Some other suitable recognition?

I like how those peope in the UK (or whatever...) drop articles when referring to a "Hospital" or a "University."
Nicola was in hospital
y'all are weird. Don't come to the Americas!
Oh, I'm sorry. I meant: "don't come to Americas"

Come on... Articles, man... weirdo. It's probably your fault I drop the "to be" and just say "The floor needs vacuumed."

Ugh... Sickening.

But also. whatever. Babies are kind of awesome... Shut up. They are.
Congrats and whatever.

"Don't come to America."
"The floor needs vacuuming."

Those sound fine to me. But yes, the British version dropping articles before hospital still hits my ear awkwardly. "She is in hospital" sounds like it should be read in a Russian accent.

I dunno. We gave you the language. It's not our fault you went and misbehaved with it over there.

There are probably Reasons but I don't know what they are. For what it's worth, and I realise it's not much, 'the hospital' is used too. I wouldn't say she was in a hospital as that makes it sound like I don't know which one.

Hey girls. Wanna party?

huh... Never thought of it that way.

But I'd have said "While she was in the hospital."

Does that make it sound, like... I don't know... Uppity or something? Like she was in THE hospital? And you should know which. Because it's THE hospital.

And Deacon. You phrased it well. but I catch myself saying "The floor needs vacuumed" or "This shirt needs ironed."

And I don't know why.

We do use 'the'. Probably as much as we drop that article. If you'd been here in Glasgow and asking about when you could visit, I'd have said 'the hospital's visiting hours'. It was automatic not to do that when I first mentioned it here. I don't know why. If I had to guess, it'd be because I knew which hospital, but it doesn't matter to you or the story which it was. So neither is necessary. But that is a total guess.

I would say my car needs washed. The 'to be' is understood

It seems like the British drop articles only in certain circumstances. "She is in hospital" is almost like a status like, "She is in bed." I imagine they wouldn't say, "She is in loo" as compared to "She is in the loo" or whatever. But there are lots of inconsistencies in the bastardized language that is English. They pluralize a corporation or group where we treat them as a singular thing. "Microsoft announce earnings" as compared to "Microsoft announces earnings" for example.

The "to be" thing is just weird.

Ah, yes! Id' say "My car needs washed" too.

But you all had the language first. I wonder who broke from it...

I remember hearing somewhere that the British accent was actually invented to be different from that of the colonies. And the Brits used to sound more like redneck southerners. I mean.. Red... neck... No I got nothing. Red-neck southerners.

I have absolutely no support for that. I don't know where I heard it. I don't know if it's true. And I', not going to look it up. Because I'm leaving work in, like, 12 minutes. And I have other shit to do.
