Re: I return!
I'm studying Japanese. :p But mostly literature, which requires lots and lots of digging through obscure books that have never been translated for information about obscure cultural references in the Yoshiwara district.
But no, seriously, my areas mascot is a little dragon with cherry blossoms. That dude is on everything around here, along with the crap about the Reds team. And the university's mascot is a creepy little face wrapped up in a handkerchief that they try to pass off as cute but comes off like a rejected pokemon.

If you're attending university in Japan, I take it your 日本語 is very good then? That's gonna be embarrassing for me, I really only started studying before I came. And I only really get the opportunity to practice reading and listening, so my speaking is pretty crap.
Ah, now we're getting into sub-mascot territory. For example, Kobaton is the mascot for Saitama, but my local mascot is Hasupi:

This little dragon guy is my local mascot, though I have no clue what his name is:

He's usually holding sakura in my area though, as I'm directly in the middle of Sakura Ward.

Japan is weird, man. Seems they swing from being hugely sweet and sappy to being perverts on such a scale that even I'm daunted.
I need to go there.

Yeah, looks like "Nu" here is Saitama City's mascot. Kobaton is still the mascot for the whole of Saitama.gravity wrote:This little dragon guy is my local mascot, though I have no clue what his name is:

Sometimes both at the same time!Rorschach wrote:Japan is weird, man. Seems they swing from being hugely sweet and sappy to being perverts on such a scale that even I'm daunted.

You'd like it here, you can buy pornography at any convenience store! With your choice of 3D or 2D women!

Be careful about what kind of porn you buy here, that's all I'm saying. Some of that shit is wrong on legal levels.Rorschach wrote:Japan is weird, man. Seems they swing from being hugely sweet and sappy to being perverts on such a scale that even I'm daunted.

On the other hand, walking through harajuku and playing 'girl or guy?' is a great game! All the beautiful petticoats and lace, it's great! And then a guy takes a picture up a girls skirt and you see a group of twenty girls turn on him and show you why those shoes can still be called stilettos.

Am I the only one from the Seattle area now that is not in Japan? Do I need to buy a ticket?
And those mascots are so adorable. I wish we had mascots

PS Japan is still weird. Even if I don't speak the language, I would think I should still be able to figure out what's for sale during advertisements. Sometimes I can. Sometimes, though... https://www.facebook.com/Jrockradio/vid ... 719930864/

Oh god, I can't even imagine how crowded that platform was to make people need to walk down the up escalators like that.

Yakiorigiri is fucking delicious. Onigiri is tasty enough, but you grill that bad-boy and mad tastiness happens.Deacon wrote:PS Japan is still weird. Clearly the men in white gloves were not doing their jobs properly! The great irony is people normally take the escalators to avoid having to use the stairs!gravity wrote:Oh god, I can't even imagine how crowded that platform was to make people need to walk down the up escalators like that.

I am jealous of some of the food. Just a good bowl of real ramen would be a blessing. There's a ton of questionable choices in Asian food of all origins, but some are just unarguably great.

The food is one of the most common things people like about Japan. Ramen can be very hit and miss though, since there's so many ingredients and so many possible combinations. Everything from "this tastes like instant ramen" to "it's like there's a gangbang porno being filmed in my mouth and everyone's invited!". Except for natto, natto is pure concentrated evil.

Mayo rolls are also evil. Yes, a bread roll filled with mayo. It looks identical to a cheese roll from the outside.

Re: I return!
Considering how goddamned delicious Japanese mayo is, I doubt that very much!
Oh and for reference, here's what a Yakionigiri looks like (Deacon's link made me hungry for Yakionigiri):
