Do you even know what the first computer to premiere the Doom 3 engine was? It was a MAC running a geforce 3. HL2 has models ranging into the 10k range. They probly went overboard on the backwards compatability by doing things like cutting the polycounts on the models in half so it could "run" on slower comps, but all things being equal, HL2 is probably going to be the bigger beast on peoples systems than doom 3.

And that MAC was probably at least as powerful as equivalent PCs of the time, other than the GF3. Clockspeed isn't everything.
Because of all the detail options that you can turn on or off, HL2 will probably be far more playable at Doom3's minimum than Doom3 was.

Billy, it may be fake, but with all the preloading going on Half-Life2 doesn't seem very far off.

Re: Half-life 2 going gold!
in all honesty the models and graphics are all probably done already and thats what was preloaded into steam. The code to run the came is prolly only a few megs in size once its compiled and compressed. ( by few i mean less then 100 megs ).
