For the last number of years I’ve been a sales engineer for a software company. So I’m the geek that works with the sales people as kind of the technical lead, answering all the questions the sales people have no clue how to answer, helping design and present the solutions, etc. I really like it, and it pays fairly well compared to most of the other careers I’m qualified for and interested in doing. I got laid off right near the beginning g of August as part of a massive reduction in force decision by our incompetent “leadership” that’s been a disaster on most fronts. So now I’m looking for something equivalent, and it appears the timing isn’t great. Hopefully over the next week or two I’ll get something nailed down for real. We’ll see.

Unemployed!

I *was* working front desk at a cute little Inn and cottages in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island (right in the heart of Anne of Green Gables country), but that would have ended in October anyways, since Cavendish is only open five months of the year.

The missus got a sweet new job in Ottawa so we've moved back from the Island to a proper city, with infrastructure, and doctors, and things to do in the Winter besides drink.

I'm taking this as an opportunity to finally get myself away from the horrible world of the Hospitality industry. Find myself a nice, quiet job putting files in boxes (my specialty!), or making complicated filing systems *for* putting files in boxes preferably.

Going to spend the next year working on a portfolio and try to go back to college (third time's a charm!) as a Technical Writer, because all my friends did it and if they all jumped off a bridge I'd... hesitate long enough to look like an idiot before jumping in. But they're all making sick money, and I actually enjoy taking gibberish and turning it into human-readable documents, and I discovered that a bunch of projects I was going to be working on in my free time anyways (turning my ever growing pile of recipes copied from various online sources into a properly formatted book, for starters) can easily be turned into a portfolio. Next class doesn't start until September 2019, though.

Best of luck to you both that sucks. I very often complain about my job and have in fact applied for a couple of different ones in the last week. I guess I should be happy that I have one that mostly pays my bills :). Its not even that I hate my job, I have just been doing it for over 16 years and I need a change. Eric maybe we should go into business together since you have been raising Bambi and I sold the deli. We can open up a restaurant and call it "Oh Deer". That's funny right there I tell you what.

Aka: When support can't figure it out, it comes up to me, and then if I can't figure it out.... I talk to the developers so they don't have to talk to the dirty support people.

Or possibly Archimedes with his lever/place to stand comment.

Or maybe he just puts globes onto an elevator, but he's very good at it.

I'm a metaphysical counselor (fancy way to say cartomancer, and that is a fancy way to say I read tarot and oracle cards for people). I also have a shop selling digital art, mostly Pagan based.
