April 9, 2008 - Squee!

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

So...how would you rank Fry versus Best Buy, Circuit City or any of the other electronic superstores out there?

Daily convenience - worse.
Selection - better
Customer service - negligible difference. It's pretty bad in all of them.

Looking to build your own or find an esoteric peripheral? Go Fry's
Want a CD or a Compaq or a standard cable? Go Best Buy

Altex is my store of preference when it comes to computers.

That Fry's is about 5 minutes from me. On Mo-Pac and Parmer I think?

Enjoy!

Best Buy is one of the worst places to buy cables due to head-spinning high prices. Order online or find a local place that sells them for MUCH cheaper.

My god. Why would you say this? Altex is terrible. The only thing they're good for is finding esoteric shit or otherwise an emergency part you can't just order from anywhere else online. Trust me, I've known for years guys who worked the benches at Altex, and that place is terrible. The only good thing other than oddball inventory is cheap-o generics when it comes to cables and things (see previous comment).

"Squee!" doesn't sound, well, something manly to say. Not that I wouldn't say "Squee!"

'Squee' isn't something I think - most people - say, it's more like ... onomontopeia?

More like "yeeee!"

(though I've been known to actually go "gwee!" at times... :shifty:)

Thats generally what I need them for. I have three computers and a laptop plus I'm the designated repair monkey for my parents and friends. Otherwise, I usually buy from Newegg.com. Sometimes I'm just impatient though and don't want to wait a week for parts or pay the extra S&H.

Every non-internet based computer store I have ever walked into is terrible but so far Altex is the one that I have left the least frustrated from.

*snickers* That was cute! I pretty much squeed when they finally opened a best buy here this last year.

Though I can't help but wonder if the "old days" comment was a sideways jab at the comments from yesterday. If it was, well-played, Dean, well-played. :)

Fry's is the best, and it's right down the street from my office. Sometimes I go there on my lunch just to walk around. It's been three years since this Fry's has opened and I don't think I have ever gone back to Best Buy since then.

You're not the first person to tell me that. Wish they'd head East Coast ways.
