It's probably a bad sign that I lie awake night after night, willing labour on simply so I don't have to go to work the next morning.

Nada so far. Time for a second cervical sweep.

Chim-chim cheree.

A sweep is as lucky as lucky can be, so uh I guess good luck?

I had to look that up, as I hadn't heard it before. Why are you inducing, much less twice mechanically? Is something wrong? Or is that just a euphemism for boning? ;)

No no. Everything's fine. Nicola's just running a little late. She is booked for an induction proper on Wednesday. A sweep, as I understand it, just is an effort to nudge things along.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Congratulations!

Later on when you come down from your fluffy cloud oxytocin high, we need details! Name, sex (lots, I'm sure, but that's for the future), weight, length, time and date of delivery, how mum's doing, what big sister thinks of all this so far, and how you're handling everything :D

For posterity:

He was born last night. By the time Nicola decided she was ready to go to hospital, she was 7cm dilated. We had a baby within two hours of turning up. He was 8lbs 5. I know that's going to annoy the Americans but I don't know what that is in new money.

Cara is smitten but we'll see how she feels once the novelty has worn of a bit.

His name, and I'm sure I'll never hear the end of this, is Ben.
I wanted 'Eric' but Nicola kept talking about 'American' and 'wang'. I dunno.

Anyway, we're home tonight. Now for six months of utter pants-shitting terror.

According to the Googles, 8lbs 5oz ends up being 3.77kg. A healthy bouncing baby boy!

I presume Ben's middle name is Deacon, right? :)

By the way, I really like this picture, even if I did crop it to adjust the framing. I think it's destined to be a classic in the family photo album.

PS Benjamin Deacon Lawson has a nice ring to it. It would make getting mad at him later awesome. "Benjamin Deacon! Get your ass over here!"

I'll be honest, I'd always envisioned shouting 'Deacon Lawson, get your ass in here!' from our Honeymoon suite.
Thanks for your cropping. I do like that picture. :)

You do not disappoint. But it's adorable that you think I'd take your name.
