Comic 36

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

Remember the days were we use to at least get cop-out filler comics.

I keep forgetting these forums are tied to a semi-alive comic.

Semi-alive? I'd say this comic is just about dead, better to just put it out of its misery and end it now instead of letting it suffer for months on end with one or two comics A MONTH. So much for "Real Life A DAILY comic" at the top of the main page :D

Holy Mother of Megazod! Liz! How the heck are ya, lady?!

Also, asking us to not be dicks is kinda like asking a scorpion not to sting. It's just what we do! We will be the first ones to dance in the streets once he updates. :)

I promise that is not what we are going for here, even if it is what it looks like or even devolves into. Heck, I only posted this comic because I wanted to re-read the old comics. I think we are all just sad because while we can take not getting a comic for a week or two, it bites having no update what so ever.

We are like two star crossed lovers waiting at the mail box hoping for a letter from our beloved.

You guys have a funny way of showing love. I told Greg that people were posting in the forum again, and he came in here to see people complaining that he doesn't update and that his comic is probably dead. He then told me to pretend the forums don't exist anymore because they only served to discourage him and make him feel guilt over something he has little control over.

I know the internet is all about who can be more snarky and cynical, but sometimes compassion and love is what a human needs to keep going. I love that you're fans. I love that you want your RL fix. But I don't love seeing *MY* love feeling tormented by his own guilt and by people who complain about it. :(

He WANTS to do more comics. He WANTS to be able to get back to a regular schedule. However, life is pushing back a little right now. He's working on it. Show some sort of understanding of that and support the guy.

I'd find it more worrying, personally, if people stopped complaining. The day my mother doesn't tell me to wear a jacket is the day I'll wonder what's wrong with her.

I'm sorry Greg feels guilty about whatever, but projecting that guilt onto what's been a relatively minor quibble in the grand scheme of the forums' recent activity just isn't fair.

In saying that, I hope you're both well; I'm extremely pleased to see you, and I hope the day comes when Greg is comfortable to come back and hang with us for a while.

The recent forum activity is probably 1% ironic complaining about the comic, 1% legit complaining about the comic, and 98% old e-friends shooting the e-shit.

I was literally half my age reading the comic (28 now). I don't think anybody here is really expecting Greg to suddenly get back into the comic again. And it's okay!!! Life goes on, and it's normal! Having to hide from the forums is just silly. We don't bite. I think we're mostly a bunch of (sorta) well-adjusted adults, and at this point, I'd much rather see Greg say hello than hear reports from Liz that are frankly pretty sad.

That said, I hope you two and Harper are doing great. I don't want the comic or forums to cause any bad feelings or guilt or anything like that. I think everybody here has fond memories of Greg, the comic, and the forum community. I think we are all posting again because we missed the forum community. That's it.

Life goes on, and that is A Good Thing.

So much this. Except for the well-adjusted part. Not even sorta. Not even a little bit. Seriously. I'm still as freakishly weird as I was 8 years ago.

I would SO love for you two to come back full time and shoot the breeze with us. It's like the high school reunion we never had!

Mav BREEDED, Liz. For the love of all that is holy, Greg NEEDS to know!

Yeah, that's extremely well said, NC. I wish I'd said that.

I get frustrated and upset because, sad as this is, this place was the one constant I had for many years' worth of some pretty traumatic times. And I did feel like you guys were friends, again, as weird as that must seem now. And I saw people come and people go, and that was fine, and I saw people come back and I was delighted to see them, and that was fine too. Sometimes it was good to see that people who NEEDED this online community didn't need us any more and we could release them back into RL and they'd be okay.

And then whatever happened happened and all of that and people like me who were as far removed from it as could possibly be saw the gradual and near terminal decline of this place: slow enough to be excruciating but too quick to do much about. And that's not all down to whatever happened happening but that was a good part of it.

I'm rambling. I guess what I'm saying is: how about we, the forumites, shut up about the comic? Of all the subforums Greg could have chosen to dip his toes back into, he picked the wrong one. There are tender green shoots in most of the other ones and there is an awful lot more going on than nastiness, as NC points out. How about if we sever the link between comic and forum? it's a good name for a forum anyway. And if it's a choice between losing the comic sub-forum with Greg and Liz posting, and no Greg and Liz because they're copping too much grief from the comic sub-forum, I submit it's a no-brainer.
