12/07/2007 - Racing Arizona

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

12/07/2007 - Racing Arizona

Of course, what they didn't realize is Arizona has its own confusing time zone. And thus lies the problem.

Which reminds me of a haring tale where I was driving from Las Vegas into Arizona to pick up I-40. Well, to get there, you have to go on US 93 through Hoover Dam to cross into Arizona, and then wind your way to Kingman to pick up I-40. Well, it was a really windy night, I estimate somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-50 mph while on Hoover Dam at night, and I didn't realize until I got on Hoover Dam that I was ON Hoover Dam. And the wind kept veering my car to the left. I thought I was going to fall over Hoover Dam for what seemed like an hour stretch (really, probably fifteen minutes).

Next time, I'm heading up I-15 to St. George, UT.

Kudos on the clever title :)

Arizona doesn't have its own time zone, it is part of Mountain Standard Time just like the states to the north and east of it. It just doesn't observe daylight savings time, so during the summer it ends up having the same time as California to the west.

Yes, and when my sister lived in Phoenix it used to drive me nuts. At least Arizona isn't as bad as Indiana used to be, where the state is split into 2 zones and where each COUNTY used to decide if it wanted to observe DST or not.

I don't know what you are all talking about. Arizona is very simple, it's the rest of you guys that can't tell what time it is. All that Daylight Savings crap is just confusing. In Arizona, we just keep the clocks the same all the time. No need to worry if you have to loose an hour of sleep either.

Never could understand what you all do that for anyways.
Who do you think this is?

Well if you dont' know, I'm not gonna' tell you!

If you can loose time I want to know how.

Heh...we dare not give you that power, Deacon. It would be entirely too dangerous.

Well, at least you're right twice a day then. I prefer to let my clocks run, but hey...whatever floats your boat.

Beware of Utah drives. You might be safer on the Hoover Dam...

Believe me, I know. I thought I was going to die plummeting down I-80 towards Salt Lake City. Now that I know that I somehow had some breaking ability in the car where there really was none, I'm just glad I somehow got through that. Still, better traversing the mountainside versus staring down a cliff, and fearing heading down Wild E. Coyote style.
