Does anyone have rats?

Post by Rorschach » Fri Sep 29, 2017 12:58 pm

I mean, deliberately?

Looks like we're getting them as apparently only children get a bit sulky when, after eight years of completely undivided attention, you ignore them totally for the new baby.

Now we can be all like 'Get up to the attic with your rats'. How Dickensian.

Pet rats or the ones you hope don't gnaw your face off in the night? I've heard they make decent pets. I saw an article the other day that showed kids in Cambodia using pet rats on leashes to avoid land mines.

I had hamsters in the past. One was named Penfold and another one was named Special Patrol Group.

I'd go for a guinea pig or mice over rats.... they are nasty.

If you’ll recall, Smaointe was a fan of rats and kept a number of them. I was a fan of Smaointe, but I never got to Australia to see how they did as pets.

A friend of mine has pet rats, has had many over the years. They can be lovely pets and quite affectionate. I asked him his opinion and he said:
"They're clean and smart, and definitely have their own personalities. Also adorable."

I wouldn't let the stereotypes get in the way, they can be great pets.

The rats is happening. Two females. We meet them in four weeks. We can take them home in eight.
I've been doing some reading up and, yes, seemingly they make very good pets.
