One-way trip to Mars

Post by kali » Sun Apr 28, 2013 3:07 pm

I was just wondering if any of you had any opinion on the proposed one-way trip to Mars by Mars One. Assuming it doesn't fall through, and it isn't just a major scam, does anyone here intend to sign up? Or how about the flyby mission planned by Dennis Tito for a married couple?

On a related note, is anyone else here a fan of Kage Baker? This whole thing makes me think of The Empress of Mars...

I have never heard about any of this.

I'd never be selected, I don't think, but I think it'd be awesome. You'd be going there for keeps, no getting bored or whatever, no regrets, but what an amazing opportunity to be a pioneer for all mankind...

Well it would be interesting. New problems to solve with totally new materials. What concerns me more is the physical well-being of the colonists. The atmosphere and gravity to be precise. But this would be right up my alley in terms of engineering. Constructing new buildings on a completely new place. Designing efficient buildings and habitats that could sustain themselves indefinitely with zero contribution from Earth.

Dammit, now I have to go draft things. I blame you.
