RealLife the RPG ?

Post by Phantom Snowcat » Sun May 11, 2003 9:35 am

I got this cheesy 3rd person view, RPG style game creator, and I thought, why not get the chibi version of Greg and Lizzie (and whoever else) and make them into their own playable video game? Is this a bad idea?? I thought it would be alot of fun to play....

oh well maybe its too corny

Someone was doing that using people from the forums, mind you, this was last year sometime, I think it was RadicalDreamer... but we haven't hard about it since.

How about a Real Life paper and pencil RPG? Or maybe just a new set of classes and such for the Returner's FFRPG? It would be a lot easier than programming a PC RPG.

Flash games arnt really that good. it would be more of a slightly interactive video, unless somebody is willing to spend hours scripting it.

the biggest problem is you would need a concept...

what do you wish to do with the game
what style of game
that sort of thing.

once you have decided this you need to start thinking about expanding upon this
if your going rpg, are you using a level up system, or fixed skill
if your losing a level up will it be xp or task related

if your going to make a serious go at it though, ignore the cheesy rpg maker and learn OpenGL and C++. you will probably need to learn Direct X as well, as that would make sound easier to do.

you will probably find that a adventure game would be easier to do, point and click, maybe you play greg and you help tony stop all the clones,

or maybe play tony and have to take over the world...

3e prestige classes based around Real Life Characters. Though Shirt Ninja and possibly gamer would be about it.

If I was proficient with the construction set, I'd make a Morrowind RL mod. But I'm not... yet.

hmmmm who here has the programming prowess to accomplish this feat?
hmmm might be worth learning.... i have a little C++, no graphix experience, but if i just used a syntax book... or i would do it in vb, but then again vb never does what it is supposed to do.

as i recall, somebody back on the old forums was working on one, as Fireaza said. I suppose whomever it was gave up. If anybody has some RPG Maker 2K skills, you could hit up Zengyro for some sprites and pull a RLRPG together.
