Rant/Rave/Waffles?: Blue Dragon for the 360. Three discs. Three 360 discs of turn-based RPG. Shit yeah. Sign me up, right?

So I have high expectations. And I'm not sure it's meeting them quite yet. But I think I may stick with it.

Rant Somewhat Related: I have had a lot of trouble playing through offline games lately, because I'm too busy having fun online. Rented Universe at War and played the single-player for all of thirty minutes. I own GTA IV and pretty much all I do is go online and putter around in a helicopter. I gave up on Bioshock twice in favor of playing TF2. I hope I can stick with Blue Dragon.

RANT: FFXI. I can't wait to level up far enough that I can actually leave my own little area. These early level grinds sure are boring as all living getout. I want to go exploring, dammit! That was one of the few redeeming qualities I found with WoW: if everything else got boring, I could just swim all the way around a continent, or climb Ironforge or get on top of Booty Bay. FFXI's more like "no, peon. You stay right here, in your own little gray zone filled with worms and rabbits. Come out when you've got a really cool hat."

...Man it better be worth it.

Rave: Not sure where to classify it, but anyway, at this point, Vader maybe only guy I might end up voting for in the fall elections. (They have others. Emperor Palpatine, for example.)
Rant: I just find the "Vote for" stuff for the Alliance side rather lame.

FFXI is definitely worth it. You can leave your area, you just have to avoid the big nasty things that rape everything they see. One of my favorite things to do take one of my level one Taru mules for a marathon run and see how far into the level 60+ areas I can get before I get torn a new one :o

Rant: I am an Achievement Whore. Both on XBox and on TF2
Rave: 32/38 Heavy Achievements. Now I pretty much only need ones what come from actually playing the game.
Achievements left: Party Loyalty, Soviet Block, Stalin the Kart, Krazy Ivan, Kollectivization, Pushkin the Kart.

By the way I wasn't being sarcastic. I love those kind of games, and so far Blue Dragon is working out well.

Rant/Rave: Although, it's like once every thirty minutes they give you something new and semi-novel, or some nice music or something. It's like they're saying "we tried really, really hard on this game."

But I'll stick with it. Because I'm a sucker for those games. I stuck through Chrono Cross, SaGa Frontier and Xenogears, after all.

I liked Chrono Cross! It wasn't as good as its predecessor, but... but... it's still real to me, damn it!

I liked it too. Decent soundtrack, solid battle system, semi-unique look and feel to the game despite its flaws. I got through it. I'm a sucker for turn-based RPGs.

You could get an HD DVD drive for it separately, but it wasn't manufactured with one. I think this game is so big because there are so many cutscenes. Blue Dragon is one of those modern, production-value heavy RPGs in that sense, and it occasionally goes out of its way to demonstrate that fact (like a big-budget movie).

I'm surprised there aren't games like that out for the PS3, really. The original Playstation was a veritable dumping ground for Final Fantasy clones and large RPGs of a similar nature, and I remember that spilling over to some degree to the PS2.

The (hopefully...) inevitable MGS4-on-360 port will either be neutered into tearful oblivion, or far more than that, as it FILLS A BLU-RAY DISC, and Hideo Kojima STILL had to cut stuff to make it fit. :O

Rant: Why does everyone assume that every pally is automatically a tank? I'm a freaking holy pally - I'll heal for you, but asking me to tank is like asking a mage to keep you up with bandages. Ok, maybe not THAT bad - I can tank (sorta) as long as I have lots of DPS and a healer

rant: Also, why do people think that messaging me out of the blue because they saw me with /who and asking me to come tank/heal/dps (I have a mage too) is actually going to work? If you're advertising for it and I haven't answered, chances are I'm not interested.

They assume that you're going to be filling whatever role that class fills best.

That'd be a fair comment if she was a retadin, but Paladins make about as good healers as they do tanks ... their only real shortcoming is a lack of some form of HoT, which may matter in some five-man fights, but I've never had a group with a geared Healdin than wanted for heals.

Because it DOES work. I use it as a recruitment method frequently. You would be surprised at how many people are just wandering around in some sort of quest / rep grind haze waiting for the game to play them.
