Re: Political Correctness and Other Imaginary Menaces

Last year, went to a Braves/Mets games here in NY. Braves got smoked. We were down 6-1 or something and the handful of us Braves fans tried a chant and chop.... we got some hairy eyeballs, but it was mostly just pity at that point. Maybe this year the Braves won't be totally terrible for like the te...

Re: Political Correctness and Other Imaginary Menaces

So, um, am I still allowed to do "the chop" and sing the song at Braves games? They're my team.

Re: Political Correctness and Other Imaginary Menaces

I feel the same. I don't have any hard feelings here.

Talking about PC is usually a one-way ticket to shitty town.

So let's get to baseball town or somewhere more interesting at least. There's plenty of prime political meat to cook lately.

Re: Political Correctness and Other Imaginary Menaces

Or to put it more simply: I'm not uncomfortable or nervous when you try to imply that I am a racist, or that I support trump, or enable the alt-right.

It's stupid.

I'm embarrassed that I've humored this infantile line of argument for so long.

Re: Political Correctness and Other Imaginary Menaces

I'm done. I wrote a 7000 fucking word post last week and I don't think a single word of it got through your blind fury. I think your "enabling" argument is ridiculous. I think the notion that I "support" the alt-right or Trump in any way is ridiculous. We aren't discussing race, because discussions ...

Re: Political Correctness and Other Imaginary Menaces

EMBARRASSING!!!! Admit it. Admit that even if I touch on something real you're not going to acknowledge it. But you'll accuse ME of doing that so you get to look like you're on the up and up and I'm playing dirty here. It's way better than actually taking a second, just one, to actually consider wh...

Re: Political Correctness and Other Imaginary Menaces

I don't know if you've noticed, but it doesn't take much in the way of "people agreeing with the current president" to give the man an impression that he has a mandate to do whatever he wishes. Seriously, more of this wishy washy thought crime bullshit? I don't care if you feel offended, your line ...

Re: Political Correctness and Other Imaginary Menaces

Because politically correct, the phrase, is inherently critical. It's a pejorative phrase. Yeah, it is what its critics say it is. Get over it. This is critical to my point that you continue to ignore because it suits you. You're basing your argument on some alternate definition of political correc...

Re: Political Correctness and Other Imaginary Menaces

Deacon, I wish you were actually off the mark. Let us never forget this great thread, where we learned: * NC believed the Left is long overdue for introspection about political correctness * NC thought we faced a dire threat with Trump and the alt-right, and laid some of the blame at Democrats who s...

Re: Political Correctness and Other Imaginary Menaces

And you should also admit the definition you're working from basically says "political correctness" is whatever its critics say it is, which is central to my point. But that would involve treating me like I have a point. Because politically correct, the phrase, is inherently critical. It's a pejora...

Re: Political Correctness and Other Imaginary Menaces

To where I still didn't say minorities. But you came up with that. Sacarsm alert! Yes, that was first time the conversation touched upon racism and minorities, and I brought it up. The other explanations simply don't ring true: namely, that I am completely over this conversation and am generalizing...

Re: Political Correctness and Other Imaginary Menaces

Not. One. Time. And yet you went there. Care to explain why? Because if you'll look it up I never once accused you of that, but thanks for putting words in my mouth. It really makes me feel like you took the time you insisted you took to view this from my perspective. Let's go back one week.... You...

Re: Political Correctness and Other Imaginary Menaces

I'm more worried about things much closer to fascism than whatever the right believes their enemies are doing. Yeah, I'm more worried about Trump, too. But are you totally unwilling to accept that it's not just "the right" that believes that PC culture is a problem? Not buying a typical Republican ...

Re: Only tossing a thing from here

We're using a stock template now. I guess I filled in the name of my profile back in 2003. Meh... Hi, I'm Alex, and my avatar is the album cover for Jar of Flies. My screen name is a silly metal song, a pun on booze, and an inside joke about how I am from both the South (SC) and the North (NY). I'm ...

Re: Political Correctness and Other Imaginary Menaces

Sorry I didn't get my definition of political correctness from people who think the only kind of diversity worth caring about is "intellectual.” I’m going to stick with the canonical definition, which the New York Times went with in 1990. Re-defining the phrase to prove a point doesn’t help anybody...
