Re: Louis CK

I think it's a reflection of a profitable gossip culture, whether it's blogs monetizing clickbait or people on twitter seeking attention and validation. There's a Bossip article I saw, that I won't link to, with the headline "Terry Crews Tried To Defend Wannabe Black Person Murderer Liam Neeson And ...

Re: Louis CK

I'd imagine he'll be fine.

I'd like to think that Terry Crews getting backlash for defending him and being told that he's not allowed to be black anymore is exposing more and more people to how ridiculous and meaningless these things are getting.

Re: Louis CK

Those are both reasonable and observant responses. It's nice to be see that once in awhile.

I wish more people were as open minded and not so emotionally reactive.

Re: Louis CK

I agree about perspective, that's my point. He's no monster as some paint him, but he isn't beyond reproach as some of his hardcore fans like to believe either. He's living out a story that wouldn't be out of place as an exaggerated joke he would concoct at his own expense, except it's not a joke an...

Re: Louis CK

Oh yeah for sure. If anything, I think he was a bit overrated even before all this stuff went down. He's still a great comic though. I think you are right about staying relevant, but that won't detract from his existing specials and albums. If anything, the disturbing edge, which is an appropriate w...

Re: Louis CK

Eh, it's aged ok. If anything, his scandal makes his material worth another listen given the additional context. There's a lot there to understand about a flawed human being. His indecency and disrespect for those women don't negate his skills as a comedian. We don't have to condone a person's worst...

Re: CSS and mobile-friendly design

Thanks for your insightful response. I'm understanding more of your perspective, and although I don't agree with the blame on CSS specifically, I kind of get where you're coming from a little more. Sometimes the future is better, but it helps when we remain critical and even sceptical about the shin...

Re: CSS and mobile-friendly design

To each their own, but I've found success using Discourse for about 3 years now for a game I run that used to run punBB, which was far simpler in design even than phpBB but also very outdated and less usable than what Discourse provides. Discourse is less like that car picture you posted and more li...

Re: CSS and mobile-friendly design

Or Discourse , for that matter. I think most of the gripes described here can be attributed to poor implementation, as raptor9k mentions. CSS was just a natural evolution away from HTML being bastardized to manipulate document presentation. Something like truncated content to adapt to screen space l...

Re: 1-28-19: Orville V. Trek

I guess it's not clear then what you mean by "most of the stuff we get these days". If The Nutty Professor remake from 23 years ago counts, then sure.

I would be curious to see data behind this though. To your point, the percentage or even frequency has got to be changing one way or another.

Re: 1-28-19: Orville V. Trek

Even mass and blatant IP reuse though isn't new or specific to us. See The Nutty Professor from 96/63, Ocean's 11 from 01/60, etc. Scarface from 36 years ago was reusing IP from 51 years before itself. :? I don't think it's a "these days" thing so much as the internet has made it easier to spot and ...

Re: 1-28-19: Orville V. Trek

Also, our generation is apparently doomed to endlessly repeat the past concerning all things entertainment. That's hardly new to our generation. If anything, our generation is repeating the repetition of other generations. All entertainment is cyclical, and everything's a rehash of something ...

Re: Well then

We'll see. My fear is that the more radical Democrats are going to fuck this this opportunity up and just mirror Trump's insanity. We're already seeing this with Rashida Tlaib, who I find myself constantly rolling my eyes at. Trump is a certified idiot, but Tlaib is proving to reflect his sensationa...
