It is sad we don't have new comics.
Solution is obvious-- put adobe on hiatus, start building new strips out of wood and using on stage as live theatrical easter eggs.

The steampunk time machine arc would have probably been more confusing if everything in the strip was made of wood.

Re: April 2, 2019

I'll put you in contact with Liz - we'll see how that conversation goes. :) Let me talk to her, I can be very annoying persuasive. On second thought, she and I probably have that in common. (The persuasive part, that is.) All in all, there's some medieval wisdom to all this-- if brandishing a sword...

Re: Real Life Chat

I joined. Never used Discord before. Couldn't get to the "existing one already" one either, whether by design or default. Got to the one linked to in this thread easily enough, but the 2 other people were offline (understandably, given the time of day.)

Dumbest possible timeline: Feb 27, 2019

It could be the dumbest possible timeline, but the competition is pretty fierce all around.

Re: Can't get to previous comic

What's odd is that it worked fine until the strip came back for 2019. I know the urls went through a sequential phase in the archives, then one day switched to month-dd-yyyy, but after strip was truly abandoned/went on hiatus (it all happened, including the return, before I started reading the full ...

Probably FIXED: Can't get to previous comic

So the archive feature and the previous/next feature aren't working. Using a Mozilla clone, but either way I don't think this is all JS to blame, I'm guessing part of it is server code. When it was just finicky I figured I would just wait for it to fix itself. Now that the only comic I can get to fr...

Re: This is why I can't do business with Amazon

You’re purchasing a license to read the book. If you purchase a book, you’re only purchasing the ability to read the words, not the book itself to do with as you please (intellectual property). This is not how copyright works, and it goes against first-sale doctrine, which the Supreme Court upheld ...

Re: This is why I can't do business with Amazon

I'm not a big fan of eBooks because you can forget passwords and they may or may not help you recover them. The readers can ban you from their services. This is what bothers me the most, other than how they treat their workers. After you purchase a book, it should be yours. There shouldn't be any e...

Re: CSS and mobile-friendly design

Plain text is where it's at. Never goes out of style. Also a fan. Hey, I even ran a Gopher server for a while, because I like the idea, but the implementation needed to support more the half a screen's worth of columns as a standard. In practice I'm not sure it ever came up. At the risk of making t...

Re: CSS and mobile-friendly design

I have my own beef with CSS, but a lot of it was solved with css preprocessors, so much that I hardly ever think about it anymore. Then again, I'm mostly an backend api engineer so I get the luxury of avoiding a lot of that pain. I would say you understand, just based on this line. There are worse ...

Re: CSS and mobile-friendly design

You're correct, future isn't always better, but that doesn't represent a defense of tradition so much as a fear of change. People are quick to put that on you though, when you've already been somewhat acquainted with something for years and still aren't in love with it. It's a fact that some things...

Re: CSS and mobile-friendly design

Or Discourse , for that matter. I think I even like Facebook more than Discourse. It's like a network of cattle chutes for posters. Granted it works out fine for How-to Geek, every other place I've seen it has convinced me to never join a Discourse forum ever again. When content is wider than the p...
